I recently came across this tweet: “I’m an introvert who’s stir-crazy. Do you understand how frustrating that is?” I think we’ve all been there. We’re sitting at home, reading a book, and an uneasy feeling slowly creeps up on us. Restless. Must.Do. Something. Different.

Introverts gain energy while being alone, while extroverts gain energy by being social. Often times people (including introverts) mistakenly believe this means introverts always like being alone at home, doing the same old thing. This is a myth.

So what can a stir-crazy introvert do? Here are 16 ways to stave off the restlessness:

  • Go to a movie.
  • Take a walk in a park.
  • Visit a friend.
  • Go to a zoo or aquarium.
  • Drive around town with the windows open.
  • Take an impromptu road trip to a nearby town.
  • Go for a jog.
  • Go to a library.
  • Take your camera outside and take photos.
  • Put a chair in a corner you normally don’t sit in and note how different the room looks.
  • Meditate.
  • Do yoga, situps, or some other exercise.
  • Go on an organizing spree. Are all your papers filed away?
  • Rearrange furniture.
  • Put all your furniture into one corner and then dance in the middle of the room.
  • Skype/Google Hangout a friend or relative.

Despite what the memes tell us, introverts don’t always prefer to stay home watching Netflix. What do you like to do when you get restless and stir-crazy?
