I’m not into New Years resolutions.
I just don’t finish them. Plus, I’m kind of impulsive, and if there’s a change I want to make I tend to just start then and there.
But, each year I choose 3 words that will serve as my guide for the new year, it’s a brilliant idea from entrepreneur Chris Brogan. These 3 words are less like resolutions and more like intentions. They don’t carry the burden that goals sometimes leave me feeling.
My 2016’s three words were Trajectory, Reach, and Service. Frankly, I had to look them up on this blog in order to remember what they were. Note to self – put your 2017 words somewhere you can see them.
But I can can still remember my first Three Words from 5 years ago:
Finish, Focus, Accept
I didn’t become the queen of finishing projects, but the words were a reminder that I could choose my path and create a new way of doing things.
My 3 words for 2017 are Magic, Foundation, Wield.
Perhaps I’ve been watching a lot of Fantasy/sci-fi this year, but those words feel right.
Magic
I know I can lose interest in something if it’s not fun. I want 2017 to be more fun and interesting for myself and my clients. I want to create magic and go on adventures. Not necessarily adventures outside in the world, but metaphorical journeys inside my personality and online.
Foundation
After I decided to switch to visibility advising for introverts from life coaching, I wanted to jump into making supportive communities for introverts instead of doing the harder work of laying the foundation of the new Introvertology. That led to a whole lot of second-guessing and frustration and disappointment. So, this year I’m remembering to not get ahead of myself and do the work.
Wield
No, I’m not taking up sword fighting as a hobby. One of the definitions of Wield is “to use (a weapon, instrument, etc.) effectively; handle or employ actively.” I have so many tools at my disposal – everything from my knowledge to software to training I’ve purchased, and most of it is gathering dust. Instead of hoarding tools, it’s time to use them. And not just use them, but use them expertly and actively. I want to wield my knowledge to create more content and help more introverts reach their goals and share their gifts with the world.
What will be your 3 words for 2017? Let me know in the comments.
