We all have those in-between moments, periods where we have some time to kill. Like while we’re sitting in the dentist’s office, arriving early for a meeting, or waiting for the dryer to buzz.
Many of us try and use that time to be productive but a lot of time we just end up doing busywork (an activity that takes up time but doesn’t help us further a goal) like checking our email for the 15th time that day.
Instead of using your in-between moments for busywork or for mindlessly checking Facebook… again… why not use that time for something relaxing so you can restore some of your introvert energy.
Here are 15 alternatives to busywork:

- Doodle. It doesn’t have to be fancy.
- Sing.
- Make music. This can be as simple as snapping your fingers or as complicated as using a smartphone app.
- Stretch. If you’re at home you can try some yoga. You can also exercise at your desk.
- Read a short story, poetry, or comic.
- Text someone you haven’t talked to in a while and tell them they’re on your mind.
- Step outside and take a deep breath.
- Make a cup of tea.
- Watch the clouds.
- Craft a haiku.
- Write a letter.
- Make a list of 5 things you’re grateful for.
- Listen to music. There have been a number of studies which highlight the health benefits of music.
- Remember a happy memory.
